We click photos to remember things!

The title of this post came from the response given by one of the kids in a 4th std class in St Thomas Boys. And that is exactly what I did. I clicked pictures to capture the moment.

It was a particularly animated session in this class. We started off with discussing how we remember things…’write it down’, ‘tell someone about it’, ‘CLICK A PICTURE!’

Interaction at a high as the kids spoke about events at which they’ve clicked pictures, and this was heightened by Isa’s activity for the first half of the session. With flourish, she pulled out a stack of papers and handed out to each child 4 sheaves.

They looked at it quizzically as she began demonstrating how to go about folding each sheet of paper. Nimble fingers went about the task and soon, the 4 sheets of paper were folded and looked identical.

“Now what to do Teacher”, they asked. And she smiled, the smile of a teacher who knew exactly what she was doing and was confident that she had the attention of her class.

This was the perfect setting for the reading of Guddu’s Photo! A colourful and amuzing bilingual book by Tulika, Isa took on the English, and I took on the Hindi. Each time Guddu’s Ma was ready to click a picture of Guddu, 40 cameras came out and were ready to capture the moment. And they did this with great excitement!

And at the end, with no real stimulation, one of the boys stood up and said, “Teacher! She clicked his picture because she wanted to remember!”
