Alban Couto Community Library

The Alban Couto Community Library was initiated with the imagination of having a library space in the village of Aldona inclusive and open to anyone who would like to access a good collection of books and engage with the library more deeply. Bookworm’s presence at Aldona has been there for many years, through library sessions that have been facilitated by the team in a number of schools in the village. The Library program in Aldona is supported by Mrs. Aurora Maria Couto who has generously contributed and urged contributions towards the development of a good library program in the village.

The community library was inaugurated on the 18th of August, with a short welcoming speech by Mrs Couto, an open invitation to the entire community to engage with the library, and the initiation of a mural activity by Isa Flores with all the children present.

The library currently holds a collection of 600 books and is added to from time to time as per requests from members and other requirements. The collection includes books for different age groups and genres and is often refreshed with books from the main library in Panjim.

Holding with the concept of the library as a space that is dynamic, vibrant and open to all, over the course of the year, a number of events and activities have been held at the ACCL library and participated in by a number of children and adults. These include story hours, origami and other craft workshops, guided drawing sessions, sketch walk’s, stitching workshops and other creative sessions.
