The Tree Book project enabled by the Mehlli Gobhai fund was conducted by the Visual Arts Program of Bookworm Library from January to May 2022. It consisted of a series of 6 hour-long sessions which opened up the art of Mehlli Gobhai to children and facilitated the creation of abstract art, nature inspired art, and finally their own Tree Books. Over 400 children from 4 Bookworm community sites, two government primary schools, three Bookworm libraries, and 11 organisations from across India participated in this project. The project concluded in an exhibition of the children’s artwork and books at the Vinay and Jean Kalgutkar Community Centre in September 2022. Now, we bring you these lesson plans as a free resource to take to children you work with. We invite you to invest in The Tree Book by Mehlli Gobhai (Talking Cub) and The Secret World of Mehlli Gobhai by Jerry Pinto (Pratham Books) and conduct this module with children.
