My journey at Bookworm

I first came to know about Bookworm through Deepa – she said “Take Eli to Bookworm Library they run a really nice session for children on Saturday morning”. We had just moved to Goa and I was eager to get Eli to interact with other children. Eli did enjoy his PSM session but I think was more interested in the books and Lego at the Library! He attended the Kids Cook and that’s when I felt that since I loved baking so much why couldn’t I do a baking workshop for kids at the Library? I remember coming and meeting Deepali and mentioned that I could conduct a workshop and since I had time on my hands could help out in the Library. Well a baking workshop was scheduled and I was excited – it was the first time I was actually doing something with kids……I waited and waited…..but there were no registrations – my cookie crumbled! Not wanting to give up I said yes to another workshop…….and that’s when a meeting with Sujata happened. I came in to ask if there were any registrations – no such luck and Sujata spoke to me and one thing led to another and here I am five months later – still not one cookie baked but I have done so much more……..

Bookworm to me is like The Faraway Tree – a book I loved so much as a child. As I climb the stairs it’s like climbing the enormous Faraway Tree and I land in a strange and wonderful land which rests on the topmost branch – each day a different land and each day new experiences and adventures. There are days that I feel I’m Saucepan Man – juggling so many different things and hoping I keep everything together, I occasionally slip on a pot or a pan but try and get up with some help. On other days I am Moon-Face kind and nice and there are days that I am the Angry Pixie – in disguise of the Silky the kind-hearted fairy…..Looking from the outside one can never imagine the amazing work that goes on at Library. Through these months I have realized that it’s not just one person that makes things happen be it the LiS, MOP or Library programs – it’s the collective efforts and ideas of each and every one on the Team that makes Bookworm what it is. I for one would think Bookworm was just a ‘Library’ had I not had the opportunity to climb the branches of this magic Tree……Even if there is a new land each day at the Bookworm tree there is something that never changes – the colleagues I work with everyday…..each one a different personality but all of them such amazing people to work with. I am sure that one day that baking workshop is going to happen with Pop biscuits and Google buns….but till then I know that I am on an adventure – one that is certain to be good!
