Bookworm At Science Film Festival Of India

Naturally I was nervous but excited as well. My first serious assignment after joining BW just a few days ago.

First ever Science Film Festival of India is coming to Goa and BW is invited to put up a stall at the Festival site.

Our Ma’am Mrs Sujata Noronha was so excited……., so was everybody else at BW. It is really an appreciation for the activities of BW.

The Science Film Festival is organised by Vigyan Parishad, a body of the Department of Science and Technology with support from Department of Science and Technology, Goa; Entertainment Society of Goa; Goa Science Centre; National Institute of Oceanography at the ESG premises at Panaji, Goa during 14-17^th January 2016.

Vigyan Parishad has been taking efforts to popularise and propagate the concepts of science among the student community.

Bookworm on the other hand has been making big strides towards inculcating reading habits among children, and this is the meeting point for both organisations.

Vigyan Parishad had their target group as students from IXth to XIth standard. Appropriate for the occasion BW decided to specialize its activities related science, ie;

1. Read Aloud Science related stories
2. Exhibition of Science books
3. Experiments in Basic Science which will be attractive to children
4. Melcom dressed up as a space man.

Though we have made a good planning, we were a bit disappointed at the site to see that the organizers have not allotted a time slot for the students to visit our stalls between the screening of films and related activities; and so we could not present some of the activities, we had planned. Still a good number of students visited the stalls, and we could see that some young children were really excited.

The Science Film Festival is going to be a regular affair in Goa- (Goa is already popular as a film festival destination) and BW also plans to make a strong presence at the festival in the coming years.

Though I was nervous in the beginning, I was happy in the end. Sincere thanks to our team for the good show and Ma’am Sujata for confidence in me.
