This workshop will highlight findings from research in literacy instruction from the U.K., Australia, and the U.S. Essential components of reading instruction – phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension – will be discussed. An instructional continuum covering component areas for grades K-12 will be presented. The terms ‘systematic and explicit’ will be defined in relation to reading, spelling, and writing instruction.

Ms. Susan Lowell, a U.S Fulbright lecturer and adjunct faculty member at Simmons College, USA, is an expert on dyslexia and related learning disabilities.
