Igniting Read Alouds

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

I have been waiting, knowing it was imminent in the climate of Bookworm’s space that our firecracker  Barkha Sharda would ignite and shower us with light !

Today, Bookworm celebrated World Read Aloud Day in the Panjim Garden and Barkha took this on as a project to lead and she set the park on fire!

Nearly 400 children in neatly organised groups were sheltered and led to beautiful Gazebo’s sponsored by a friend and supporter in the Park. Children listened to stories read aloud in English, Kannada, Hindi, Marathi and Konkani. Poetry, song and non fiction texts from  The Curious Owl, a newspaper for children completed the repertoire of readings and at every moment, Barkha knew what was happening, who was where and what had to be done!

It was so fine to see her lead and laugh, read and reflect and through it all keep her eyes on the many little things that make up the Bookworm baggage of events. Nothing was missed from the exhaustive list she shared, packed and transported. Each and every team member was on board committed and knowing what role they had to play and the crackle, sparkle, light and direction came from Barkha.
