Do you know to make hats?

How many types of hats you know to make?

Hey ! Hey! My students in Kasturba Matoshri Schools(KMS) learnt 4 type of hats from ‘The Captain’s Hat Story’. Arvind Gupta’s book Ten Little Finger’s encourages children to read and make craft as well. Using paper folding techniques we decided to end our classes for the Christmas break with— The Captain’s Hat Story.

All they needed were newspapers, the excitement they supplied and the story was eagerly listened to as well.

Don’t you want to know which are the four types of hats? Here is what happened in KMS……….

There was so much excitement in the class with the newspapers in their hands. They were all inquisitive to know what we are going to do. As we folded our newspapers the students were surprised to see what they made. Their first cap the SAILORS CAP- they were so proud  and wore their caps with full happiness.

They thought this is it and when I said, ‘can we make more caps?’ They were delightedly waiting though very noisy. Next they made is FIREMAN’S HAT, “Aag ko bhujane wala hat”, some said. As they were proceeding making their hats they were so happy.

But, Oh Lord!!!!!  The bell rang and they were restless to leave. With this I let them decide to carry on or stay and continue the clas. I was so gald that most waited and the one who went out came back with their mid-day meal and continued.

We then made SHIKARI’ CAP. There were so many Shikari’s in my class. With less time left, we rushed to see the AIRFORCE OFFICER’S CAP.  After refolding you get Captain’s Boat, but alas a huge wave came and hit the Captain’s boat. Both the corners of the boat breaks . Here the students were sad that they had to tear their hat. They then refolded the entire paper. What you get next?

Ha! Ha! Ha! Ho! Ho! Ho! You get a T-Shirt. All the students wore their torn T-Shirts happily. Some also took their T-Shirts to show their parents. Some chose to keep their hats and did not tear the Boat on either side. What was most excited was some wore the T-Shirts and went home.
