Stir it Up (Day 4)

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Day 4 and we’ve got a comfortable rhythm going for the workshop.

Every morning, the kids come in and the boys take great pleasure in their moments of running around burning the excess energy and the girls; too dignified for this sit around talking about what they’ve done the previous evening.

All this until they are beckoned, at which point they march up the stairs and wash their hands without being told that they have to. And then their seated and ready to get cracking!

At this point, we’re still trying to keep the plan for the day a great surprise….almost unsuccessfully. And once the excitement has reached boiling point, we let them in on the secret.

And once they know what we’re whipping up for the day, some of the ingredients that they suggest can amuse.

Once the recipe’s read….they are at full attention!

Today, there was a lot of chopping and crushing of biscuits to go around the tables. Its normally at this time that you can hear odd grumbling at the table if one of the other kids got to cut something extra or got to do something “cooler” than the other kids.

Time for a quick break! And by this time, everyone sits on the steps and the discussion begins. There’s talk about the (not just books) series of books that they’ve read or are getting through, there’s talk about chess and mathematics, and someone’s just declared that they tried out one of the recipes of this week at home.

And then its time for round 2 of the day….the washed hands are back at the table, and the questions about what’s next for the day are back on!

When they learned what they were doing next, excitement prevailed! Pizza has that effect…pizza pinwheels add a twist!

By the time its 12:30 p.m. (and hungers are rising, quite obviously) everyone’s just about ready to head home. And the moment the parents arrive, its time for their little ones to show them the products of their day.

“Will you share?” is generally responded to with silence and a sneaky smile!

Aaaaaah summers….stirred up. Good days!
