Stir it up (Day 2)

Day 2….we’re all set to go! The kids are waiting to step into the cars. We’re off to the market!

“What are we going to do at the market?!” With shopping lists in hand, and 2 groups made; the veggies group and the fruit group; we set off to come back with the items on our respective shopping lists.

And the race was on! The teams were set to be competing with each other. “Teacher, can we buy some mangoes?”, “I don’t like pomegranates!” Ofcourse they had their own opinions….and they voiced them!

And then we zipped off back to the library and the mother kitchen. On the way, songs about shopping in the market were being made up.

“Teacher, are we going to now make something with the things we bought?!” Ofcourrrrrse! Out came the boards, knives, bowls, whisks and the rest of the kitchen implements….it was time to cook!

And then the stories going around the tables this morning were shared tales of preferences about vegetables and fruit and the favoured recipes of what could be made from those things.

In no time, there were bowls of carrot, peas, boiled pasta and corn set on the tables and the kids were ready to make their own customized mac and cheese dishes! And then they were whisked off to pop the dishes into the ovens.

When they got back to their work spaces, a realization suddenly dawned on them….”we used the vegetables….but we bought fruits as well….what are we doing with those???????”

SUMMER WS 423

Knives were raised and the chopping and prep began again….the end result…. a highly colourful assortment and arrangement of fruit. Summery, juicy….and the kids all picked their favourite fruit and tucked into those bowls. Fruit kebabs!
